Trump messed with the wrong Puerto Ricans
In a hate filled fascist rally at Madison Square Garden, several speakers insulted Latinos, Jews, Muslims, immigrants, women and of course Kamala Harris
Tony Hinchcliffe, one of the speakers at Trump’s hate rally held in New York City, said Puerto Rico was a “floating island of garbage,” then he mocked Hispanics as failing to use birth control, Jews as cheap and Palestinians as rock-throwers, and called out a Black man in the audience with a reference to watermelon.
There were several speakers after him, including Trump, but not one of them denounced this racist and hateful speech.
Grant Cardone, a businessman, said Vice President Kamala Harris and “her pimp handlers will destroy our country,” a metaphor that casts the Democratic presidential nominee as a prostitute.
David Rem, a childhood friend of Trump, called Harris “the devil” and “the Antichrist”, while waving a crucifix.
Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson (who now is paid by the Russian dictator Putin) mocked the attention paid to Harris’s racial identity: “She’s just so impressive as the first Samoan, Malaysian, low-IQ former California prosecutor ever to be elected president,” Carlson said. (Harris’s father is from Jamaica, and her mother was from India; she is of course a brilliant former Attorney General of California, Senator, and the current Vice President)
Trump repeated that one of the gravest threats that America faces is “the enemy within” (he has called out Speaker emerita Nancy Pelosi and Senate candidate Adam Schiff as some of the supposed “enemies”), against which he will launch the Armed Forces.
Democrats have warned about Trump’s descent into authoritarianism as John F. Kelly, the former Marine general who was his longest-serving chief of staff, warned that Mr. Trump met the definition of a fascist.
Trump continued his frequent rants about immigration and claimed that a “savage Venezuelan prison gang” had “taken over Times Square”, which will come as a surprise to anyone who has recently visited the New York landmark.
Radio host Sid Rosenberg denounced Hillary Clinton as a “sick son of a bitch” for linking the Trump rally and a pro-Nazi event at the arena of the same name decades ago (although it was fairly obvious that Trump wanted to recreate the 1939 Nazi rally).
Kamala Harris’s campaign seized on the spectacle. Several influential Puerto Rican superstars, Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, Luis Fonsi and Ricky Martin, lent their voice for Ms. Harris on Sunday.
Puerto Rican pop stars Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin shared a Harris video on their Instagram accounts on Sunday detailing the vice president’s plans for the territory. The three artists have more than 314 million Instagram followers among them.
Trump was just miles from where he was convicted of 34 felony counts earlier this year and still awaiting sentencing
It should be noted that there are hundreds of thousands of Puerto Ricans in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Florida, Texas and other swing states (1.1 million in Florida, 456K in Pennsylvania).
